ATP Tour Finals – Day One: Federer And Djokovic Star

Published:

The ATP Tour Finals comes to town this week for what will be an excellent exhibition of tennis as the world’s best look top topple the seemingly unstoppable force that is Novak Djokovic.

The world number one now has 10 titles in 2015 after his victory in Paris and he heads to London looking for a third successive end of year success at the O2 Arena.

Day One brings it both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, not a bad day out for those lucky enough to have tickets for this showpiece event.

First up it’s the world’s number one operator, who is given the challenge of Kei Nishikori.

The Japanese has beaten his Serbian rival twice in the past, with his 2014 US Open success the most memorable. Since then it’s three wins for Nole but each of that trio has gone the distance.

The Asian superstar has been enjoying himself ahead of the beginning of the event.

Djokovic is expected to emerge as the victor here, but the pressure is something he thrives on. This has been the greatest year of his career and there is little sign of that stopping any time soon.

The evening session delivers the Swiss maestro that is Roger Federer on to the newly laid court in the English capital.

The evergreen genius has won this event six times and will be one of, if not the best backed players in the tournament. His first challenge will be to overcome Tomas Berdych in the round robin competition but the former world number one is renowned for thriving in high-pressure situations.

Berdych has struggled against the 34-year-old in recent outings, with Federer winning the last four clashes, the Czech giant taking just one set in that period. However, the world number six has been in relaxed mood ahead of the Finals and is capable of causing an upset on day one.
