Aston Villa can prolong dominance of West Ham this Boxing Day

Published:

Aston Villa haven’t won since the opening day of the season and people are unsure of where their next victory is going to come from.

The Villans have only picked up seven points throughout the entirety of this campaign, with many suggesting they are guaranteed to fulfil their 1/11 odds of relegation.

However, they look set to get a late Christmas present when they welcome West Ham in a claret and blue derby, with their Boxing Day visitors’ league position hiding some poor form.

Despite sitting eighth, the Hammers haven’t won in the Premier League since the end of October and that was against top-flight whipping boys Chelsea.

This winless run has included five draws and it may be wisest to side with Villa to win or draw in the double chance market, which is priced at 4/9.

It’s not only the poor form of the Londoners that leads to the suggestion they may lose, with Remi Garde having been able to make small improvements at his new club.

The Frenchman is responsible for picking up three of the four points that the Villans have amassed since their opening-day win, including a stalemate with high-flying Manchester City, and did so in six games.

In contrast, Tim Sherwood only picked up one point in 10 matches after travelling to Bournemouth to pick up a win in the first game of the season.

Last season, Villa took four points off of the Hammers, including a 1-0 win at Villa Park and repeating that scoreline is priced at 13/2.

Furthermore, the Midlanders have only lost one of their last five home matches against West Ham, winning three of those.

Across those contests, Villa found the net six times and only let in three suggesting that West Ham are one of their favourite guests and could bring some festive cheer for the team bottom of the league.
