Arsenal to boost title campaign with bid for striking superstar

What looked to be the first cracks appearing in Arsenal’s title credentials actually proved to be quite a big let off as Manchester City decided to match the Gunners’ loss to West Brom with a chastening defeat of their own.
Liverpool’s destruction of Manuel Pellegrini’s Premier League hopefuls may have made Arsene Wenger feel a good deal better about his side’s slip, but it won’t stop questions about Arsenal’s ability to get over the line in a title fight.
The answer to those doubts could lie in the Emirates stadium outfit’s moves in the January transfer window, where a real message of intent would be sent out should the north Londoners manager to land a big name to help their cause.
According to the Daily Mirror, though, one of the bigger names the club could target wouldn’t be arriving until next summer, as they suggest Wenger will try to lure Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Arsenal when his contract at PSG runs out at the end of the season.
Wenger, of course, famously fluffed the opportunity to sign the enigmatic Swede when he was a youngster, offering the striker a trial with 9/5 title chasers, much to the then Malmo man’s disgust.
In recent years, many Gooners have cried out for their French leader to spend big on a star-quality striker to build league challenges around, often being left frustrated by the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott up front.
According to the Sunday People, Ibra is keen to experience the Premier League before his career is out and sees Arsenal as the perfect vessel in which to explore the division.
Of course, the Gunners won’t be the only team interested in landing a lucrative freebie like Zlatan and the People suggest Manchester United are also keen on a deal.
However, the advantage lies with the north Londoners as the Swede wants to move to the capital, with Wenger equally open to working with the gifted front man.
