Strictly Week 4: No changes at the top but watch out for Kellie

Published:

Another week, another male contestant bites the dust in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing competition with Daniel O’Donnell the latest contestant to fall by the wayside.

His elimination was not that much of a shock following a lukewarm American Smooth to Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly Me to the Moon’.

Even by the Irish crooner’s extremely safe standards it was a performance lacking in va-va voom and so he and partner Kristina Rihanoff had to go.

That left dance-off rival Kirsty Gallacher celebrating another week in the ballroom but like Daniel’s final star turn, the 2015 edition is yet to take off in a big way.

Here are a few of the big talking points…

We’re still whittling down the no-hopers

Housewives’ choice Daniel may have been expected to last a little longer but the fact remains he was always fighting a losing battle with regards to reaching the latter stages.

And so far we haven’t seen any great shocks with the show’s no-hopers slowly but surely being picked off.

The likes of Kirsty, Carol Kirkwood, Jeremy Vine and Ainsley Harriott are all likely to find themselves under pressure and facing the dreaded dance-off in the next few weeks.

Unless we see a major meltdown it’s hard to see a shock elimination that would shake-up the status quo.

Kellie’s star is burning brightly

Eastenders actress Kellie Bright is emerging as a dark horse with her recent score of 32 putting her and partner Kevin Clifton joint-second on the leaderboard.

Their impressive Foxtrot to ‘Dream A Little Dream’ has further outlined Kellie’s credentials and seen her odds on outright victory cut from 14/1 to 12/1.

It’s not all about Jay and Peter

Jay McGuiness and Peter Andre are still the top two in the betting but there’s value to be had in backing a female winner.

That outcome is currently priced at 11/10 with their male counterparts 4/6 to take the Glitterball trophy.

But beyond our standout boys, the likes of Katie Derham, the aforementioned Kellie Bright and fellow slow-burner Anita Rani each look capable of mounting a strong challenge.

The ladies and their partners filled the top four slots on the leaderboard this weekend and they shouldn’t be taken lightly.
