Sorry Theo, Three Lions fans would prefer Harry Kane up top

With Wayne Rooney now a definite absentee from England’s upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia, the Three Lions need a new hero to step up to the goalscoring plate.

Arsenal star Theo Walcott has stated his case for the role but we wanted to know who you think is best placed to fill the Rooney-sized void.

The result?

Harry Kane won the day with 45 per cent of the vote with Ladbrokes News readers evidently casting aside any doubts about the Tottenham striker following a slow start to the season.

And while Theo believes he can be the leading man for Roy Hodgson’s side he still only managed to trail behind his Spurs counterpart.

The pair dominated the poll but there was a respectable showing from Liverpool frontman Danny Ings.

He’s starting to prove his worth at Anfield and that’s perhaps why 14 per cent of you plumped for him to start at Wembley.

However, an unfortunate hip injury seems to have put paid to his hopes.

But despite being the Premier League’s leading marksman there was little support for Jamie Vardy’s claims.

The Leicester forward has bagged seven goals so far however he came home in last place in our four-runner race.

Maybe you just don’t rate him or perhaps the fact that he plays for the unfashionable Foxes shaped opinion.
