RWC: Wins for Fiji and Romania as they play for pride

Published:

There is no sadder sight in competitive sport than a match between two sides that have already been eliminated from the tournament, and this is what will be on offer tomorrow.

Fiji and Uruguay are both winless and join England in exiting Pool A early, they will face each other in the Rugby World Cup at stadiummk on Tuesday evening.

Similarly, Canada and Romania have struggled in a France-and-Ireland-dominated Pool D, and are looking for their first win as they head to Leicester.

All four teams are playing for pride now and this sense of freedom could bring about a number of tries between the also-rans.

Fiji v Uruguay in Pool A

Despite the defeats, Fiji have given a good account of themselves in their first three matches.

The 35-11 loss to England, the 28-13 setback against Australia and, in particular, the 23-13 result versus Wales showed they are a combative and determined side.

Fiji will be wanting to improve their -49 points difference, and the best way to do this is by dominating their South American opponents.

Uruguay have given away 119 points in their two group games already, and coupled with the Flying Fijians hopes to impress, will produce a high scoring game.

Best bet- Fiji to win by 41-50 points @ 3/1

Canada v Romania in Pool D

This game carries more importance than the Pool A clash, as both sides are in with a realistic chance of finishing third and qualifying for the 2019 World Cup.

Games between the two are always tight, with Romania winning a 2013 meeting between the nations by a solitary point.

The European team have triumphed over their North American opponents in all three of the last games, and will carry this on after making seven changes to the squad who lost to 44-10 to Ireland.

Romania will win, but it’s going to be tight.

Best bet- Romania to win by 1-10 points @ 12/5
