Rangers can expect the next Raheem Sterling with new appointment

The irony of Mark Warburton’s circumstances at Glasgow Rangers, where he is enjoying having control of the club’s transfers, having left Brentford over a dispute of the same nature is well-known.

But while the Bees struggle in their second season in the Championship, Rangers are going from strength to strength in Scotland’s Ladbrokes-sponsored version.

Nine wins from nine and with a host of new signings making vital contributions, life couldn’t get much better for Warburton, but it just has.

He’s been rejoined by his former Director of Football at Brentford, Frank McParland, as the Scottish club’s head of recruitment.

McParland, who also worked with the Rangers tactician at Watford, is best known for his time at Liverpool, where he held a variety of roles.

As Rafael Benitez’s chief scout, he was the key reason the club signed Raheem Sterling and also played a big part in the club uncovering Jordan Ibe.

Having previously ran the Merseyside club’s academy, McParland is a hugely respected figure in the game and has a strong working relationship with Warburton.

It’s a serious coup for Rangers, having lured the new arrival away from a position as Burnley’s sporting director.

In the continued push for promotion back to the Ladbrokes Premiership, moves like this are a necessity if they are to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for league titles once again.

Rangers had previously been operating on a skeleton set of staff while running amok in the lower divisions, but as their statement to unveil McParland referenced, have been dialling up their operation in a bid to modernise.
