Queen’s Park’s Gus MacPherson named League 2 manager of the month

Queens Park boss Gus MacPherson has been named the Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month after guiding the Spiders to three wins from four games in September.

The Hampden Park club got off to a bad start last month, losing 1-0 away to Berwick courtesy of a Darren Lavery penalty.

However, former St Mirren and Queen of the South boss MacPherson, who took the Queen’s Park role back in 2014 lifted his side to go on an incredible run which lifted them up to second in the league.

MacPherson got the ball roiling with a 5-1 demolition of East Stirling, which saw Ryan McGeever, Chris Duggan, Paul Woods, David Galt and Jon Carter all get on the score sheet, and the goals kept coming the following week.

Galt was on the sheet once again as strikes from Jamie McKernon and Mark Hurst ensured at 3-1 win over Elgin City at Hampden Park.

The winning run then went on the road as the Spiders secured a 2-1 victory over Stirling at Forthbank Stadium, the goals this time coming from Carter and Anthony Ralston.

MacPherson guided Queen’s Park to second place in League 2 last season and after losing out in the play-offs to Stenhousemuir the former Kilmarnock favourite will be keen to go one better this time around.

The betting has the Glorious Hoops down as joint 3/1 favourites to win the league, alongside Gary Naysmith’s East Fife, and a few more months like the one just gone and it’ll be hard to see the title going anywhere other than Scotland’s oldest club.
