Promising teenager extends loan stay at East Fife

Defender Jason Kerr has handed East Fife a boost by extending his loan stay at Bayview until May 2016.

The 18-year-old, on loan from Ladbrokes Premiership side St Johnstone, joined on a temporary agreement in January but has been given leave to remain with the Fifers for the rest of the season.

Bayview boss Gary Naymsith clearly has faith in the teenager, with the former Hearts, Everton and Aberdeen man playing him in nine matches already this season.

Kerr has formed part of the defence that has kept three clean sheets and conceded less than a goal per game in the Fifers’ run to second in the league.

This weekend sees Naysmith’s men welcome table-toppers Annan Athletic to Bayview and a win over Jim Chapman’s men would likely see odds of 3/1 on East Fife winning the league all but disappear.

Kerr has missed just one game this season and played the full 90 minutes in the other nine games so news of his prolonged stay will be welcomed by Naysmith and Fifers fans alike.

Further up the pitch nine-goal striker Nathan Austin is the man hitting the headlines.

The 21-year-old smashed five goals in the opening seven games of the season and despite a three-game lean spell is back among the goals with four in his last three outings and is now the 12/5 favourite to top the charts.

Happy with his own input, the striker, however, feels it is consistency that will be the key to the Fifers reaching their objectives this season.

“I think we should be looking to win the league or at least getting promotion,” he commented.

“It’s consistency, everyone will take points off everyone in this league and we just need to put a run together for ourselves.”
