Poll: Who should replace Tim Sherwood as Aston Villa manager?

After delivering a Premier League win percentage even he wasn’t shouting about of just 26 per cent, Tim Sherwood’s spell as Aston Villa manager has come to an end.

Just 28 games into his spell, the 2-1 defeat to Swansea left the Villans bottom of the Premier League with just a solitary victory to their name.

And now, with a gap of four points opening up between the West Midlands club and safety, they now find themselves on the search for a new manager.

But who would a) want the job, and b) be the man to guide them to survival? Here are some of the leading candidates.

Remi Garde – 1/3

The club are understood to have approached the Frenchman in relation to the vacancy, though stressed that he is just one of a number of men to be in talks.

The 49-year-old left Lyon after three years in charge last June, winning over half of his games in charge of Les Gones, guiding them to success in the Coupe de France.

David Moyes – 5/1

Moyes probably gets more stick than he deserves for his ill-fated reign as Manchester United boss, but looking at his relative success at Everton, he could be the ideal candidate to work on a relative shoestring budget.

His position at Real Sociedad looked to be in trouble, until a 4-0 victory over Levante at the weekend bought the Scot a stay of execution at the Spanish side. But could a move back to the Premier League tempt?

Brendan Rodgers – 6/1

Having spent £60m on four former Southampton players at Liverpool, with little return on investment, Randy Lerner and Co may be averse to giving Rodgers a war chest to spend should he get the gig.

A mixed record as a manager, the Northern Irishman would certainly come with plenty of risks attached, but it could be one the Villa hierarchy need to take.

Nigel Pearson – 10/1

Sam Allardyce may have been snapped up by Sunderland, but he’s not the only man that can lead a side to a relegation great escape.

Taking a down-and-out-looking Leicester side to seven victories in their last nine matches secured their Premier League safety, and set the foundations for Claudio Ranieri’s assault up the table. Prepare for some bizarre press conferences if he gets the nod though.

Bob Bradley – 14/1

Bradley already has some links to Aston Villa, with his son Michael turning out for three games for the club back in 2011.

With ample managerial experience at the top level, taking the USA to the last 16 of the World Cup, Bradley could prove an astute choice, despite the fact he has not managed domestically in a major European league.
