Poll Reaction: England headed for Euro 2016 semi-final

Published:

England’s perfect qualification campaign will stand them in good stead going into the finals in France next year, according to a new poll.

After seeing the Three Lions wrap up a 10th successive win with the 3-0 victory over Lithuania Ladbrokes News asked readers to have their say on how far Roy’s boys can go in the summer and with 29 per cent of the votes the semi-final was the top choice.

Proving that a deep run in the tournament is expected, a total of 20 per cent of the voters claimed the national side will go all the way and end a barren spell dating all the way back to 1966.

And should England get to the final, there seems to be only one likely outcome with not a single person voting for the “runners-up” option.

However, there are plenty of people who think the same old issues will derail England’s attempts, with the Group stage, last 16 and quarter-finals all picking up 17 per cent of the votes each respectively.

There may be some cautious optimism about England’s chances in the finals but the betting suggests otherwise with the Three Lions distant fifth favourites to lift the trophy at 11/1.

World Cup winners Germany remain the favourites at 3/1, while hosts France are also expected to delight home crowds at 7/2 to win.

Spain can be backed at 6/1, while Belgium, who will move to the top of the Fifa rankings if they secure a  win against Israel tonight, are priced up at 10/1 to land the trophy that many expect a golden generation to deliver.
