Poll: How high could Jurgen Klopp take Liverpool this season?

Published:

Liverpool are looking to waste no time in appointing a successor to ousted boss Brendan Rodgers this week, with Jurgen Klopp the Anfield hierarchy’s preferred candidate, according to reports.

The papers say that they want the former Borussia Dortmand manager in place by the end of the week and ready to lead the side into their next fixture against Tottenham on October 17.

The 48-year-old worked wonders in the Bundesliga guiding Der BVB to back-to-back German titles before the spending power of Bayern Munich stripped them of their biggest stars.

But how would he fare in front of the Kop?

The red half of Merseyside has had a distinctly average start to the season, winning three, drawing three and losing two of their eight games.

If the manager-elect is to succeed in the hot-seat he will have to improve on their current position of 10th in the table.

How high he could get them is open to plenty of debate.

Just once in the past six seasons have Liverpool finished higher than sixth in the table, a feat Ladbrokes price up at 4/9 to repeat this term.

A top four spot is 13/5, while coming home in the leading pair is 20/1, but the thing many Kopites will be hoping for in the near future would be a first title in 26 years.

The bookies’ odds of 66/1 suggest that is just a pipedream this term, especially with the team sat six points off the lead already.

Securing the services of the dual Bundesliga winner would be a bold statement from the club’s owners, and one that many fans would welcome with open arms.

With Klopp’s position in the dugout waiting for him, we want you to vote in today’s poll to tell us just how far he could take Liverpool in 2015-16.
