Perfect ten for Warburton and Rangers
Following the 2-1 win over Queen of the South, Rangers are now ten from ten in the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship, and Mark Warburton has made an immediate impact at Ibrox.
They’re the only side through the entirety of the SPFL, the English Football League, the Welsh Premier League and the Northern Irish Premiership with a 100 percent record, making them the most in form team in British football.
Only Brighton in the English Championship and The New Saints in Wales match the Gers in remaining unbeaten, but Warburton’s side’s dominance means they outshine all the rest.
This is in stark contrast to the side who lost seven and drew ten last season under Ally McCoist and Stuart McCall, and sees them at 1/100 to win the league.
Another noticeable difference under the 53-year-old is the age of the squad, with only two players 30 or over, Dean Shiels and Kenny Miller, in the team.
Darren McGregor (30), Marius Zaliukas (31), Lee McCulloch (37), Ian Black (30), Jon Daly (32), Kris Boyd (31) and Steve Simonsen (36) were all let go in the summer, with a hoard of players aged 25 or under being brought in to replace them.
This youthful exuberance is clear when watching Warburton’s team play as they look to get on the front foot as soon as possible, then continue to attack.
You only need to look at Rangers’ goal difference to see evidence of this, they’ve scored 33 and only conceded six, finding the net an average of 3.3 times a match.
The star of those signings was 25-year-old Martyn Waghorn who scored the winner against Queen of the South, netting his 12th of the season.
That puts him seven goals clear at the top of the scoring charts, and there are no signs of him stopping, being priced at 1/12 to be the league’s leading marksman by the end of the season.
With the Championship theirs to lose, anyone wanting to make money on the Teddy Blues should look towards the Scottish Cup where they are priced at 9/1 to earn the trophy.
