Motherwell v Celtic: Home record suggests McGhee could start with a bang

Published:

A baptism of fire awaits Mark McGhee this weekend as his second stint in charge of Motherwell starts with the visit of champions Celtic.

The Bhoys may trail Aberdeen in the Ladbrokes Premiership, but Ronny Deila’s men have lost just two of thier last 22 games in all competitions and as such will arrive at Fir Park as the 1/4 favourites.

However, while Well’s form of late led to a change in manager McGhee has inherited a side that are tough to break down on their own patch.

The hosts have lost just two of their last 12 games at Fir Park and while losing 4-0 to the Hoops last time out, have drawn two of the last four meetings with the Parkhead side.

McGhee’ s men are a long shot at 10/1 but with the boost a new manager brings and Motherwell’s recent penchant for holding Celtic clear to see the 11/4 Motherwell and Draw option in the Double Chance market could prove a shrewd move.

However, while the stats make compelling reading for those looking for a reason to back Motherwell, the fact remains that Celtic are clear favourites and with that in mind backing the visitors to win and both teams to score could be the best bet of the day.

Not only because both sides have netted in each of Well’’s last three and both of Celtic’s last two outings, but also because Ladbrokes has upped the odds from 7/4 to an enticing 9/4.

That Price Boost isn’t the only offer to make the most of for this game though, with the televised match qualifying for Ladbrokes’ famous Sharp Shooter offer.

Back any player to score first and if they do just that inside 25 minutes the bookmaker will double the odds.

For instance, Celtic’s man of the moment Leigh Griffiths – who has hit 10 goals in 18 games this season and struck first six times – can be backed at 11/4 to open the scoring.

Do it inside 25 minutes, however, and Ladbrokes will pay out at 11/2!
