Manchester United legend slams Louis Van Gaal’s playing style

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is guilty of building a risk-averse style of play at Old Trafford since his arrival as David Moyes’ replacement.
That is the damning indictment of former United midfield star Paul Scholes, who claims the current Red Devils side “lacks creativity”.
In an interview with BBC Radio Manchester, Scholes, who won 11 Premier League and two Champions league titles with United, said: “It seems he (Van Gaal) doesn’t want players to beat men and it’s probably not a team I’d have enjoyed playing in.”
The comments come at a time when current United captain Wayne Rooney is coming in for criticism for his profligacy in front of goal.
However, Scholes was reluctant to criticise his former team-mate, insisting it is Van Gaal’s style of play that is inhibiting the striker, not a dip in form.
“I was at the derby on Sunday and Rooney’s movement was brilliant but when he’s playing in that team there’s no one prepared to pass to him. I think after 20 minutes you’d be tearing you hair out,” he added.
“I played with some brilliant centre forwards and I don’t think they could play in this team – the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham.
United will attempt to bounce back from their League Cup disappointment this weekend with a successful trip to Selhurst Park.
The visitors are priced as the even-money favourites to take all three points, with Crystal Palace available at 13/5 and the draw on at 23/10.
And, despite all the talk of his depleting powers, Rooney is the 5/1 favourite to open the scoring in south-east London, while odds of 7/4 say the England man will put his name on the sheet at any time dung the 90 minutes.
