Lamar set to strike as the All-Weather Championships begin at Lingfield

Published:

The third edition of the All-Weather Championships is set to begin with Lingfield Park the venue for the first meeting on the road to the £1m Finals Day next spring.

With Ladbrokes being proud sponsors of the event we’ll be casting our eye over the action throughout the series.

And hopefully there will be the odd winner or two from us as we countdown to the Good Friday showpiece.

To kick things off we’ve had a look at big races on the eight-race card.

The Fleur De Lys Stakes (15:20) over a mile is your feature with the race acting as a Fast-Track Qualifier for the £150,000 All-Weather Fillies’ & Mares’ Championships on Finals Day.

Polytrack specialist LAMAR is a fancied runner for trainer James Tate. The four-year-old has finished in the first two in five of her six starts away from the turf and was runner-up in this race 12 months ago.

Taaqah is another Tate entrant to watch out for. The three-year-old filly finished second in a recent Listed contest in Hannover with her handler quick to point out the positive effect first-time blinkers had on his charge.

Elsewhere, Keith Dalgleish’s in-form Invoke is a lively contender while Godolphin are represented by the classy but lightly-raced filly, Very Special.

Meanwhile, the River Eden Stakes (14:20) should be another interesting affair. Alwilda recently landed the spoils in a Listed contest in Germany and has to be respected.

But given Godolphin’s recent form in the race – four wins in the last six years – it’d be foolish to write-off their latest chance, DESERT SNOW.
