Ladbrokes Premiership: Celtic go top as Aberdeen slump continues

The top of the Ladbrokes Premiership table once again has a familiar feel after Celtic regained top spot at the expense of Aberdeen.

The Dons had topped the table – by as much as five points – after winning the opening eight games of the campaign, including a 2-1 victory over the Champions.

However, since breaking the club record Derek McInnes’ side have lost three successive league games – the latest being Friday’s 2-0 defeat to Ross County – and now find themselves in second place.

Aware that Aberdeen had lost Celtic went into their game with Motherwell knowing a win would see them restored to the league’s peak, but Ronny Deila’s men were forced to work hard to eke out a 1-0 victory as the hosts responded well to the appointment of Mark McGhee.

While there was change at the top it’s as you were at the bottom, with Dundee United unable to secure a first win for Mixu Paatelainen when going down 1-0 to Hearts, who brought an end to Ross County’s brief stint in the top three.

Partick Thistle built on last week’s win over the Terrors with an impressive 2-1 away win over St Johnstone to cut the gap to safety to a single point.

Elsewhere, Kilmarnock ended a two-game winless streak and brought a two-game winning run to a close with 2-0 win over Inverness and finally Hamilton and Dundee shared the only draw of the weekend with a 1-1 result at New Douglas Park.

Aberdeen’s early form may have had them talked about as genuine title contenders but odds of 14/1 suggest that may be too tall a task.

However, at 1/9 in the ‘Betting without Celtic’ market it appears there is plenty of faith in the Pittodrie outfit to be the best of the rest once again this season.
