Ladbrokes Premiership: Aberdeen to return to their winning ways

Published:

Last weekend proved to be rather unpredictable in the Ladbrokes Premiership as the top three all failed to win and Aberdeen’s winning run came to an end. With Celtic not in action until Sunday however, the Dons can bounce back and go seven points clear if they beat Inverness.

Elsewhere Ross County can go six games unbeaten when they take on Caley, and Dundee United begin life after Jackie McNamara with a trip to Partick Thistle.

Here’s your weekly preview…

Aberdeen v St Johnstone

The Dons got a little lucky last weekend. After seeing their perfect start to the season come crashing down to Inverness, Derek McInnes and his team would have been rather pleased to see Celtic held to a 0-0 draw with Hearts.

Include the cup loss to Hibernian and the Dons have lost their last two games, but they should be returning to winning ways here when struggling travellers St Johnstone visit.

Each of Saints’ eleven points this season have come at McDiarmid Park, with their endeavours on the road yielding four defeats and zero points.

The Perth side have scored in every game away game this term however, and with Aberdeen keeping just one clean sheet in their last four games, a home win but both teams to score is on the cards.

Best Bet: Aberdeen and both teams to score @ 5/2

Dundee v Motherwell

Dundee possess the Ladbrokes Premiership’s second-leakiest defence but they may be in for an easier time of it against goal-shy Motherwell.

Dens Park has seen plenty of value for money this season, never more so than the 3-3 draw with Ross County last week.

The Dees haven’t kept a clean sheet at home in 10 games since a 1-0 win over Partick on Valentine’s Day and over the last 19 home matches, Paul Hartley’s side have kept just a trio of shutouts.

However managerless Motherwell have netted just twice on the road this season, losing each of their last three games away from Fir Park.

Best Bet: Dundee to win at 23/20

Hearts v Kilmarnock

Hearts’ 0-0 draw at Celtic last week may have extended their winless run to four games, but the Edinburgh side were the first to deny the Bhoys three points at Parkhead this season.

Killie had won six straight games at Tynecastle netting 16 goals for one conceded, before their most recent visit ended in a 5-0 thrashing 18 months ago.

The pair met just over a week ago in the cup, with the Jam Tarts scoring two injury time goals in a 3-2 victory.

The last four meetings between the teams have witnessed 20 goals, and with both sides seeing over 2.5 goals in more than half of their games this term, more strikes are in the offing.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 8/13

Partick Thistle v Dundee United

Dundee Utd look to kick-start their season after parting company with Jackie McNamara earlier this week.

The Terrors head to a Partick side yet to win this term and who have lost their last five successive matches.

United have conceded eight in their last three games away from Tannadice, but with the hosts netting just twice in their last five matches, this bottom of the table clash could be a low-scoring affair.

Best Bet: Dundee United @ 15/8

Ross County v Inverness

Ross County are in excellent form, going five league games unbeaten and seven in total when including cup games.

The Staggies raced into a 3-1 half-time lead at Dundee Utd last weekend, but though the hosts pegged it back to 3-3 at 90 minutes, County remain in fine form.

Likewise Inverness can point to a five-game unbeaten stretch in all competitions and will have been buoyed by their excellent win last weekend at home to Aberdeen.

Both teams scored in the three meetings last season, including two 1-1 draws, and with both sides currently enjoying good fortunes, a similar result looks likely.

Best Bet: Score Draw @ 10/3
