Ladbrokes League 1: Goals to keep on flowing at Peterhead

Published:

Peterhead fans are certainly getting value for money this season, even if they aren’t quite getting the wins in Ladbrokes League 1. The Blue Toon host Airdrieonians in what should be a goal-heavy clash, while league leading Dunfermline look to extend their advantage at home to Forfar.

Elsewhere Ayr head to Stenhousemuir, Brechin welcome Albion to Glebe Park and Cowdenbeath head west to Stranraer.

Here’s your weekly preview…

Brechin v Albion

A team with one home win welcomes a side with one away victory this term.

Brechin have been much improved of late with just one defeat in four, while Albion have claimed three wins from their last quartet of fixtures.

Rovers won the first meeting on their patch 3-1, but this is a better City side they now face, and this will be a much closer contest.

Best Bet: Draw @ 5/2

Dunfermline v Forfar

Including cup games, Dunfermline have only won two of their last five, but they dispatched Stranraer with ease last weekend and have already seen off Forfar 4-0 this term.

To add to the visitors’ woe, they’re on a four-game winless run despite scoring in every game.

The Pars have only kept one clean sheet at East End Park, so Forfar could well be cheering a goal on Saturday afternoon, but it won’t be enough to outdo the league leaders.

Best Bet: Dunfermline -1 at 21/10

Peterhead v Airdrie

Peterhead haven’t won in the league since a 2-1 success at home to Dunfermline in mid-August.

They’ve picked up four draws in the seven games subsequently however, with both teams finding the net on five occasions.

The fans should be expecting a few goals at Balmoor with both teams finding the net in all of Airdrie’s away games in the league this season.

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 3/5

Stenhousemuir v Ayr

Ayr sacrificed their place at the top of the table last weekend with a draw at Forfar, but United are now seven games unbeaten in the league and thumped Stenhousemuir 5-2 in August.

In stark contrast, the hosts are winless in four, claiming just two draws in a spell which has seen them concede 11 times.

The Honest Men have netted two or more in each of their last four away games, and could pounce on a Stenny defence with a sole clean sheet at home this term.

Best Bet: Ayr – 1 @ 23/10

Stranraer v Cowdenbeath

Cowdenbeath haven’t travelled well this season, losing all five away games while conceding an average of over four goals a game.

Stranraer however aren’t excelling at home, winning once with just two goals for the home fans to cheer about.

The first meeting of the year ended in a 2-1 win for the Blues in August, and with two wins in their last three games – albeit both away from home – they should edge this encounter too.

Best Bet: Stranraer to win @ 5/6
