Ladbrokes League 1: Ayr and Dunfermline to profit away from home

Published:

Life in Ladbrokes League 1 was just taking some shape before the international break, with Ayr and Dunfermline putting some daylight between themselves and the chasing pack. League leading United head to third-placed Forfar, while the Pars head to a Stranraer side struggling for points at home.

Elsewhere, bottom side Cowdenbeath look to make inroads to the teams above when they host Stenhousemuir, Albion welcome out-of-form Peterhead to Cliftonhill, and Airdrie host a revitalised Brechin.

Here’s your weekly preview…

Airdrie v Brechin

After four straight wins across August and early September, Aidrieonians have fallen away of late. Just one point from the last three games has seen Airdrie lose touch on the leaders, while opponents Brechin are on a real high. Having lost their first five matches, City are three games unbeaten, claiming seven points from the last nine available. Their out of sorts hosts should be able to battle for a point here though.

Best Bet: Draw @ 14/5

Albion v Peterhead

Albion could go third if results go their way this weekend. Rovers have been solid at Cliftonhill too this term, bagging three wins from four games. Peterhead are the draw kings of Ladbrokes League 1, claiming five all-square results from nine. The Blue Toon are winless in six games however, and have won just twice in their last 12 away matches.

Best Bet: Albion to win @ 29/20

Cowdenbeath v Stenhousemuir

Cowdenbeath currently prop up the table, but their home form is solidly mid-table. All of Cowden’s points thus far have come at Central Park, while opponents Stenhousemuir have picked up just a solitary point away from home. Stenny haven’t won away from Ochilview Park in 2015, with their last success on the road a Christmas win at Stranraer – 13 games ago.

Best Bet: Cowdenbeath to win @ 7/5

Forfar v Ayr

Forfar have fallen away after a bright start this season, losing their last two at home and conceding six in the process. Table-topping Ayr have been relatively untroubled on their travels, winning their last three. Ian McCall’s potent strikeforce have scored two or more in seven of their nine league games this term, and could be in for a profitable afternoon with Forfar keeping a sole clean sheet at Station Park.

Best Bet: Over 1.5 Ayr Goals @ 21/20

Stranraer v Dunfermline

The evening kick-off in front of the BBC Alba cameras should be a good encounter with Stranraer seeking a third straight league win at home to the league favourites. The hosts have struggled at Stair Park however, scoring just twice en route to a single home win. Dunfermline have already netted 16 times away from home this term, picking up nine points from a possible 12, and could add more to the Blues’ Goals Against column.

Best Bet: Dunfermline -1 @ 13/8
