Ladbrokes betting suggests Jose Mourinho is staying put

The media clamour for Jose Mourinho to lose his job grew louder last night after the beleaguered Chelsea boss saw his Blues side crash out of the Capital One Cup.

The midweek fixture against Stoke was supposed be a chance for the cup holders to pick up some much-needed confidence ahead of this weekend’s visit of Liverpool.

However, from the moment Jonathan Walters smashed home the Potters’ opener the writing appeared to be on the wall.

Loic Remy, on for the injured Diego Costa, managed to delay the disappointment with a last minute equaliser, but when the out-of-sorts Eden Hazard saw his penalty saved by Jack Butland Chelsea’s sixth defeat of the season was confirmed.

As a result the back pages of this morning’s newspapers speculate as to how long Mourinho will remain in charge, with many tipping Roman Abramovich to take a £30m hit and send the Portuguese boss packing if he loses again against the Reds.

However, the betting suggests Mourinho will be given a chance to turn things around with Ladbrokes offering odds of 6/1 that Chelsea lose and axe Mourinho this weekend.

The self-appointed ‘Special One’ seems more likely to at least see out the current campaign, with the bookmaker offering short odds of 5/4 on Mourinho still being in charge at the end of the season.

Should Mourinho and Chelsea go their separate ways, however, it is PSG who look best placed to offer him his next challenge.

The Parisiens are the 3/1 favourites to snap up Mourinho, with Ligue 1 rivals Monaco next in the betting at 5/1.

Manchester United (6/1), Bayern Munich (6/1) and Porto (12/1) complete the frontrunners as far as the domestic scene is concerned; while it’s 16/1 that Mourinho takes over the England job.

Given his record of five losses from five penalty shootouts as Chelsea boss Three Lions fans may hope PSG get their man.
