Klopp’s El Tri snub ominous for Liverpool and Arsenal managers

Reading between the lines, Jurgen Klopp’s disinterest in taking up the vacant Mexico manager’s job can only be bad news for two of the Premier League’s most scrutinised bosses.
Klopp’s reluctance to answer El Tri’s call has been attributed to the long-time Borussia Dortmund gaffer’s desire to extend his sabbatical from the game, having only left the Westfalenstadion at the end of last season.
However, with the prospect of either the Liverpool or Arsenal posts becoming available at some point this season, or even at its conclusion, there is a decent chance Klopp has an eye on one of these prizes instead.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger are both hypothetically under threat from Klopp’s availability, having been heavily criticised by fans and the media this season for various reasons.
Rodgers has blamed a media witch-hunt on the bubbling speculation which has courted the Northern Irishman early in 2015/16, but a six-game winless streak, recently broken by defeating Aston Villa, gave his detractors plenty of fuel.
Three seasons is considered a long time not to bring in silverware at Liverpool, especially when a mountain of money has been spent on recruits, some of whom have failed to live up to enormous price tags.
Rodgers is still very short at 13/8 to be the first Premier League managerial casualty of the season, so the spectre of Klopp waiting in the wings ensures the Reds tactician is running out of leeway with results.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s troubles in Europe, where the Gunners have lost both opening Champions League fixtures to the group’s weaker opponents, have reignited the debate about Wenger’s tenure.
The Frenchman’s obstinacy to spend big money in the transfer window, to the obvious detriment of progression, has once gain riled swathes of supporters who believe his number is now finally up at the Emirates.
Five seasons of failing to make it past the round of 16 in the competition and no serious Premier League title challenge in 10 years are taking their toll on Gooners, despite successive FA Cups papering over the cracks.
Klopp’s CV, where the German took Dortmund to successive titles and a Champions League final inside the last five years, is starting to resonate loudly both on Merseyside and in north London.
