Kamara: Sergio Aguero’s injury will test three things at Man City

The news that Sergio Aguero could sit out the next seven games will put three things to the test at the Etihad Stadium – Wilfried Bony’s credentials as a top, top striker, Manuel Pellegrini’s summer transfer activity and Manchester City’s title aspirations.

They coped without him early on in the season, so we will see how they cope without him this time round. It is a major blow for them on the goalscoring front, but we’ll have to see.

Wilfried Bony knew where the goal was when he was at Swansea, and now is his opportunity.

He mustn’t think about when Aguero is going to come back in and take his place. He’s got to get stuck right in there and stake his own claims.

It’s only in the coming games that we will find out how much of a loss Aguero is.

Or has Pellegrini done the right thing and made sure he has got enough cover to cope with every eventuality?

Unfortunately that’s football, you can’t guarantee that every player is going to be available for 38 games in the league and then cup matches, it’s a squad game now.

It’s up to Wilfried Bony to step up to the plate and make it difficult for Aguero to get back into the team when he’s fit.

If Bony isn’t sticking the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis, then we will see the urgency to get Aguero back go up a notch.

Aguero a worthwhile Golden Boot bet if odds drift

Despite his imminent spell on the sidelines, Aguero remains an 11/8 shot to out-score his Premier League peers this season.

Missing seven games won’t help his cause, but the fact that he is capable of scoring five in one game does give him a chance.

Saying that, if I was a bookmaker I’d be looking to edge him out to at least a 2/1 shot and invite people to have money on him.

That would be the gamble for punters; Can he? Can’t he? You’d get twice your money back if you got that 2/1 price so it’s probably a bet worth having if he reaches those odds during his spell out.

Title win a must this term

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has been speaking of how last term was “below par”, and the Premier League title is the ambition this season, and it is easy to see why.

They need to win trophies with the amount of money that has been invested into that football club.

I’m not sure whether just a Capital One Cup or an FA Cup would suffice. I would think that they are looking to win the league once again as a bare minimum.

While it’s not theirs to throw away, but they are in a better position than they were this time last year. There’s a long way to go but they will now want to kick on out in front.
