Kamara: Cellino’s no mad-man, he just wants the best for Leeds

Much was made about Steve Evans’ previous comments about never working under Massimo Cellino. But the Leeds chairman clearly isn’t bothered about what’s been said in the past by the club’s new manager.

You don’t give someone a job who has made the comments that he has if you don’t believe he can help you get what you are after.

If things don’t work out, they could well come back to haunt Evans, but he won’t be bothered about all that talk.

It’s all about what he does now and will be judged purely on results. He’s only got a contract until the end of the season, so his task is clear – get them to the play-offs – I’m sure that will be his remit.

He will be focused on getting results and guiding the team up the table, or he won’t be there next season.

Someone pointed out to me that of the last five Leeds bosses (temporary or permanent), only Neil Redfearn has managed more than 12 games in charge, that coming at the second time of asking.

In that case maybe Steve Evans’ goal first and foremost should be to see if he can get to 13 games in charge and then after that the world’s his oyster!

He didn’t start off too badly in his new role, after getting a strong response from his players on Wednesday night after going a goal down against Fulham.

And while he may have suggested in the past that Cellino picks the team at Leeds, that doesn’t look the case.

Sam Byram had been left out in recent weeks, and had come under some criticism from the chairman, but was included at Craven Cottage, so it certainly looked as if Evans had picked the team he wanted ahead of the game.

Hopefully everything will settle down at Leeds from now on in.

The thing about Massimo Cellino is that he is a man in a hurry. He wants to get his team to the Premier League as soon as possible, so that’s why he may come out with all these crazy decisions and sacks the managers and fall out with them.

He won’t fall out with his managers if they win week-in-week-out, and start challenging for promotion, he’s not that stupid.

He’s just a man who wants to get to the highest level in the fastest possible time. Unfortunately he’s in too much of a hurry to get to the Premier League.

The Italian has invested a lot of his money to get there so he’s just looking for the winning ingredients for the right manager to come in and be able to work with both him and the team.

It may make the operation of the club look unprofessional, but he’s just looking for the right formula, and if he gets that he will just sit back and relax, I’m sure.
