Kamara: Arsenal have found the missing piece in their puzzle

Published:

After witnessing Arsenal go toe-to-toe with European champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday, and overcome a quality team a 2-0 victory could be the catalyst for domestic success for the Gunners.

Their showing at the Emirates was, in my opinion, the best defensive performance they have produced since the Invincibles era of Sol Campbell, Kolo Toure and Ashley Cole.

That will give them a lot of confidence going forward. The win may just be enough to take any doubts out of their minds that might have been there.

They are all good players, playing for international teams, but to do it collectively, not just as a back five, but a whole team, and survive that level of pressure from Bayern Munich deserves plenty of credit.

If you are an Arsenal fan it’s got you believing that if you can do that against one of the best teams in Europe, then you should be able to do it week in-week out in the Premier League.

They were real title challengers even before Tuesday night’s performance, but whereas there seemed to be something missing before, it’s not now.

That little bit of steeliness and determination that they produced to dig in collectively and get a result showed that as a team they are more than capable of competing with the very best.

Bayern fans’ protest was noble, but will it solve anything?

The talk before the game in London was all about the Bayern fans’ protest at the £64 they were charged for tickets to the game.

When you are travelling from Germany you have got some mighty big expenses in the first place with the flights, accommodation and then your ticket prices. So all in all, it works out an absolute fortune.

But now you can only go and watch if you are a fan with loads of money, so that’s wrong.

However, as wrong as it may seem, is it going to change anything at the very top level? I doubt it very much.
