Jamie Vardy’s top goalscorer odds cut again after weekend winner

Published:

The fairytale shows no sign of letting up for Leicester City or Jamie Vardy, after another three points and a goal at the weekend for club and player respectively.

Vardy’s clinical finish on the hour was enough to secure the Foxes another win over Crystal Palace and maintain their place in the Premier League top five.

The goal also took the Englishman to ten for the season – double what he achieved last term – and Vardy is now 6/1 to claim the top goalscorer award next spring, having been 80/1 just six weeks ago.

Harry Kane may have bagged a hat-trick against Bournemouth, and Alexis Sanchez has also found the net in recent weeks, but Vardy now has a four-goal lead in the race for the Golden Boot.

With bottom-half sides West Brom, Newcastle and Watford all to face Claudio Ranieri’s men in November, the 28-year-old could be bursting the net plenty more in the coming weeks.

And having firmly established himself as Leicester’s central attacking outlet, it’s hard to see why Vardy won’t play the majority if not all of the Foxes fixtures as long as the former Fleetwood man stays injury-free.

Leicester are the third-top scorers in the league after Manchester City and West Ham, and with Ranieri seemingly unlikely to change their marauding forays into opposition territory, Vardy is set to continue pouncing on chance after chance.

Vardy’s form has even caused reports to come out of Spain that Real Madrid may make a move for the England international in January.

Bale, to Benzema, to Ronaldo, to Vardy. Goal!

That would never happen of course, because Ronaldo would shoot instead of pass the ball.

But there is no smoke without fire and with Aguero out, Sanchez struggling to assert himself as Arsenal’s man attacker, Kane still to show consistent form in front of goal and Rooney lagging behind on two league goals, this incredible underdog tale is set to run for a while yet.
