In-demand Gus MacPherson remaining respectful to Queen’s Park

He claimed the Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month award for September, and Queen’s Park boss Gus MacPherson has his eyes set on further achievements in the game.
The 47-year-old has been in charge of the part-time club since January last year, and a win percentage of over 40 per cent at one of the smallest clubs in the Ladbrokes SPFL has attracted attention from bigger clubs.
The Spiders are currently third in Ladbrokes League Two after a trio of wins last month, but the former St Mirren boss is harbouring a move out of part-time football.
Speaking to the Evening Times, MacPherson said: “Would I like to get back to full-time? Very much so. But I’d always be respectful to Queen’s Park.”
I’ve had opportunities and spoken to people but the timing’s not been right, the circumstances haven’t been right, but I’m still very, very ambitious.”
The Glaswegian has experienced many ups and downs in a managerial career which began in 2003 at St Mirren.
The highlights in Paisley were undoubtedly a memorable First Division and Challenge Cup double in 2006 in a seven-year spell in charge of the club.
A tricky spell with Queen of the South followed but MacPherson’s reputation is higher than ever thanks his success thus far at Hampden Park.
“I’m 47, in terms of management that’s pretty young, but you’re learning all the time,” he told the Evening Times.
“I think I’ve probably learned as much in management in the last couple of years because of the different set of circumstances that a club like Queen’s Park brings to you and hopefully I’m a better manager for it,” MacPherson added.
Queen’s head to league leaders Annan on Saturday, priced at 9/5 to claim a win which could see the Spiders themselves top the table come the final whistle.
