Fantasy Football: Mesut Ozil is the man of the moment

Published:

It’s pretty hard not to be excited about such a mouth-watering set of Premier League fixtures this weekend and the Ladbrokes Life gang are no different.

They’re buzzing for all the big games and ringing the changes in the hope of achieving Fantasy Football greatness.

Will a rejuvenated Mesut Ozil continue his fine form for Arsenal? Can Georghino Wijnaldum help Newcastle break their Black Cats curse against Sunderland?

We’ll soon find out.

In the meantime, here’s how the lads have been adjusting their teams ahead of gameweek 10.

Predictably, there’s a lot of love for the Gunners.

A couple of changes this week for me. Although it took 62 minutes for Arsenal to break down a resilient Watford, they eventually showed how clinical they can be.

But with not enough money in the bank to get the ever-deadly Sanchez in, I’ve gone for the next best thing – Mesut Ozil. He replaces fellow Gunners midfielder, Santi Cazorla and I’m backing Ozil to pick up some vital points for me against Everton.

The other change sees Pedro depart and the lively Frenchman, Dimi Payet, come on in his place.

West Ham are flying and Payet’s been a revelation. This one’s a no-brainer.

Having now overtaken Mr. Brightside, The Gut Truster is now firmly in my sights.

With that in mind, some important changes have been made.

Kevin de Bruyne’s five goals and four assists in nine games for Manchester City see him come in for the out-of-favour Memphis Depay.

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez has been awarded the captaincy and I’m hoping my three Arsenal stars can rack up some more points this weekend.

The Gunners are the form team in Europe at the moment and I expect that to continue against an Everton side who haven’t won in the red half of North London since 1996, a run spanning 21 games in all competitions.

The international break came at the wrong time for my lads, killing our momentum after an heroic performance three weeks ago.

But despite an average performance last week I’m going to stick with the majority of the team in the faith that my big guns will fire on the big occasions.

Butland has made that number one shirt his own after his clean sheet at Swansea on Monday night.

For my one transfer this week, Villa’s Bacuna is being sacrificed as Sherwood’s defensive tactics appear to be non-existent this year. Tottenham’s Alderweireld steps in after four clean sheets and a goal to his name this season.

Meanwhile, Brunt comes into midfield alongside Coutinho, Willian and Ozil to add some balance to the attack-minded big names.

And finally, that man Vardy has led by example in front of goal so will skipper the side this week.

Some might say I’m being pretty generous to the team I’ve selected given the fact I’m not making any changes…

But having moved up to 251 in the Ladbrokes Life league I’m confident of having another positive week.

Berahino scored a controversial goal last week and i’m hoping to see plenty of goals when West Brom face Norwich this weekend.

Harry Kane has failed to hit the heights of last season but I know he’s due a massive performance. If I don’t see it this week then his days in the team might be coming to an end.

The only change for me this week is the captaincy and that’s been given to Arsenal’s midfield maestro Ozil. The German international was scintillating in midweek against Bayern and his performances in the league have also been special.

I’m expecting another mesmerising performance at home to Everton.

With Chadli out with an ankle injury until December I’ve been forced into a change. Wijnaldum is the man I’ve punted for. He was explosive against Norwich and has arguably been Newcastle’s best performing player this season.

Sunday’s game is massive for Newcastle so I expect a big show from the Dutchman.

Sanchez keeps the captaincy with Arsenal on a high after victory against the mighty Bayern Munich and I don’t see them slowing down against the Toffees.

Gomis has been wavering in recent weeks and I’m in dire need of goals. If I don’t see them at Villa on Saturday he’ll be gone as fast as you can say Llanfairpwllgwyngyll.
