Fantasy Football: Believer turns to master of the dark arts

Is picking Newcastle United hot-head Aleksandar Mitrovic in your Fantasy Football team an inspired gamble or a bold move that’s sure to backfire?

The Believer is about to find out as that’s exactly what the dallying dreamer has done ahead of gameweek 8 as the Ladbrokes Life Fantasy League takes shape.

With the Toon set to face Manchester City this weekend it’ll be interesting to see how this latest change pans out.

And without much further ado, here’s how all of the Ladbrokes Life characters have been tinkering with their respective teams.

My resurgence didn’t last long as my team went back to pulling in low scores and that’s hurt my chances of ever getting amongst the leaders.

Changes have been forced upon me this week following a terrible injury to Callum Wilson which is heart-breaking stuff for Bournemouth fans.

In his place I’ve gone for a bit of a wildcard this week with Aleksander Mitrovic coming into the team.

For some reason I just can’t quit this guy and he impressed me against Chelsea and not for just his ability on the ball but also how he kept his composure to avoid yet more cards!

I’m not going to lie, my decision is a bit out there. But what’s the worst that could happen?

Well, my Man City ‘if it ain’t broke’ theory made me want to bury my head in the sand last week! I’m not going to bother jinxing them this time around.

Gone are the days where Juanmi is my regular bench warmer, in comes Jamie Vardy to go all out attack (minus the boost).

The BFG aka Per Mertesacker drops to the bench to accommodate Vardy, as I don’t want to be losing points in defence should Anthony Martial stick a couple of goals in Arsenal’s onion bag this week.

David Silva gets the nod ahead of Daley Blind, who may be solid for United but he’s not picking up the fantasy points to match.

Another five saves from Jack Butland secures his place between the sticks. Palace’s new fullback Souare looks right at home at Selhurst and fresh from his clean sheet at Watford, he’ll replace Schlupp.

Willian seems to be one of the only shinning lights at Chelsea thus far, so he’s getting transfered to win more some more points from set pieces.

Meanwhile, Aguero regains the armband after his last gasp penalty heriocs in Germany midweek. It’s only a matter of time before he gets back to scoring in the Premier League and City can enjoy more good times against Newcastle.

After a strong showing last week I’m keeping faith with my team.

I debated leaving Wayne Rooney as my captain due to his exceptional record against Arsenal but in the end had to give it to Sergio Aguero. Man City host Newcastle and after a great result against Chelsea last week, the Citizens can bring them back down to earth.

I’ve dropped Arouna Kone despite his goal on Monday as I think Everton would be very bold to start with both the Ivorian and Romelu Lukaku up front in the Merseyside derby.

Instead, Cheikhou Kouyate comes in after his goal against Norwich. I’ll be surprised if the Hammers don’t secure a comprehensive victory against a Sunderland side who’ve now conceded nine times in their last three games.

I’m getting pretty good at this Fantasy Football lark. Another week, another 50+ points.

I even timed giving Rooney the armband to perfection.

I expect much more of the same this week with the back four staying the same and I’m confident Koscielny and Kompany will shake off knocks to put in big performances this weekend.

I’m delighted with my blend in midfield, all four are technically gifted players chipping in with goals and this weekend will be no different.

Gomis had a good run but I’m going to freshen up my frontline and bring in Saido Berahino. This time last year he scored three in three games and I’m praying the Fantasy Football gods will be looking down on me once again.
