Dunfermline’s Allan Johnston: League 1 is all about consistency

Published:

Dunfermline have made plenty of headlines this season thanks to their goalscoring exploits and plethora of results which would cause even Carlo Ancelotti to raise his other eyebrow, but manager Allan Johnston says success in Ladbrokes League 1 is all about consistency.

The Pars have been in and around the top of table since the opening weekend of the season, but it’s only been in the past couple of weeks that Ayr and Dunfermline have opened up a small gap on the rest.

Even after six games, the top four were separated by a point, and though Ayr and Dunfermline now look to have a slight edge on the rest, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the top half bunch up once more over winter.

Speaking to Ladbrokes News, former Scotland international Johnston said: “There’s a lot of good teams in Ladbrokes League 1, it’s a really competitive league. You look at teams like Forfar who have been up there challenging consistently over the last couple of years.”

Ayr United have brought in some really good players as well. So there’s a lot of quality there. Stranraer as well have kicked on a wee bit over the last few weeks, put on a good run.  There’s nothing between the teams it’s all about consistency and putting a run together,” the 41-year-old added.

A lightning start to the season in which the Pars netted 22 goals in their opening four games quickly made them league favourites this season at 4/9, but that hasn’t changed anything for the team at East End Park.

Johnston explained: “There’s always pressure on you wherever you are in the league, that’s part and parcel of being a football player. That’s something you have to deal with if you want to be in a higher division, that’s the target we’ve set so hopefully we can get there.”

Dunfermline head to Stranraer this Saturday, with Ladbrokes making the Pars 4/7 favourites to claim the three points.
