Dundee United v Hearts: McKay to delight new boss at Tannadice

Published:

With a couple of very tough fixtures to come in the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership, Mixu Paatelainen will be desperate to come through his first test in the Tannadice dugout with victory against Hearts.

It’s clearly been very hard going for United this season as the decision to change manager confirms, with only five points gained from a possible 30.

Anything other than three points against Hearts– rated at 13/8 – and the Terrors risk getting cut adrift at the foot of the table before a trip to Celtic and the visit of a high-flying Ross County outfit.

However, in striker Billy McKay, former Terrors forward Paatelainen has a man after his own heart and a player capable of kick-starting a revival.

McKay has been a ray of light among the gloom in 2015/16 since joining on loan from Wigan, firing three times in his last four appearances.

In his time as a player, Paatelainen’s goals helped the Finnish forward endear himself to the Tannadice faithful and he’ll need McKay to carry on doing the same, starting on Sunday lunchtime.

Mckay’s abilities will be well known to the Jambos, but stopping the former Inverness CT striker in this vain of form might be another thing.

After a blistering start to life back in the top tier, Robbie Neilsen’s side have lost their way somewhat in recent times, winning just one of their last six, getting held at home to Kilmarnock last time out.

With a packed Tannadice sure to get behind their new manager, backing McKay to score first looks a fine punt at 5/1, while the on-loan forward notching as part of a Dundee United win is also very appealing at 7/2.

Don’t forget that any first goalscorer bets on this televised clash will be eligible for the bookmaker’s Sharp Shooter* offer too.

It’s also worth noting there has only been a single clean sheet recorded in a combined 16 games for these sides, so another price boost on the match looks primed.

Dundee United to score in a game where both teams win will be enhanced from 3/1, out to 4/1 from 8.00 am on the day of kick-off.
