Big priced Breeders’ Cup trio ripe for an each-way plunge

With 12 horses making the frame at double figure odds at the Breeders’ Cup in 2014, seeking out those big-priced winners for this weekend’s extravaganza at Keeneland is well worth doing.
That return of nearly one a race makes the meeting ripe for a plethora of each-way bets.
And while many of us would be more than happy with a place or two at extravagant odds, the fact that there were 14/1, 16/1, 20/1 and 66/1 winners at Santa Anita 12 months ago means we are not without hope.
Opposing the likes of Triple Crown hero American Pharoah or Derby and Arc winner Golden Horn may seem like a silly thing to do, but we’ve picked out a trio of the home team that could run well and deliver a handsome return in Kentucky.
Favourite Liam’s Map is going to be hard to beat, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Steve Asmussen’s colt won’t go down without a fight.
Second in the race last year behind the fantastic Goldenscents, Tapiture rarely runs a badly over the mile trip.
He has warmed up for the contest in good style, winning a Grade 3 at Churchill Downs in a nice style, showing plenty of guts and determination.
This time of year usually sees him in the best light, having made the frame in all of his seven starts from August onwards in his career, compared to his 44 place-rate from January to July, and will be primed to go well.
Even the best can get it wrong, and Gary Stevens has held his hands up for the ride he gave the Coolmore-owned filly in the LA Woman Stakes last time out, saying that “her last run doesn’t exist,” having been trapped four-wide coming into the home turn.
She wasn’t given a hard time that day, and prior to that race had looked something very good indeed.
She easily won a Grade 3 Del Mar handicap back in August as well as taking a Grade 2 over the weekend’s course and distance by nine lengths.
She’s got a nice draw in stall three and could well run a big race for the legendary jockey.
With two horses at the top of the market who like to blaze away from the front, there is a danger of the two out-doing each other in the early stages and setting the race up for one to come from behind.
Jerry Hollendorfer’s Wild Dude is the one that we are giving the nod to do just that and follow up last year’s big price success of Work All Week (20/1) in this race.
This consistent type has won his last two over the trip, with a few of Saturday’s opponents in behind those days, and will be one biding his time out the back early on.
He’s beaten 2013 winner Secret Circle in the past, so on a going day can be very classy and looks too big a price in this contest.
