Arsenal set for a battle to ward off Real Madrid interest

As the Premier League returns to action this weekend following the international break, Arsenal fans will have been delighted by the news that Alexis Sanchez didn’t get injured, but his superb form has begun to attract attention from the continent.

The Chilean netted twice in midweek to lead his country to a 4-3 win over Peru in qualifying for World Cup 2018, taking his tally to nine goals in his last five games for club and country.

While that sort of form has brought a smile to Gunners supporters after a slow start to the campaign, it hasn’t taken long for some big names to start swarming around the 26-year-old.

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a £37m bid to take Sanchez to the Spanish capital, and are even willing to send Russian winger Denis Cheryshev to the Emirates as part of the deal.

With Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema unlikely to leave the Bernabeu any time soon, it would appear that Rafael Benitez wants Sanchez to replace Gareth Bale in the Galactico’s attacking trio.

Bale isn’t hitting the heights of his first season in Madrid, but should Arsene Wenger ever agree to sell the forward, if would arguably be a death knell for the Frenchman’s time in north London, with Alexis a firm fan favourite.

Sanchez won’t be going anywhere anytime soon though, and despite racking up the air miles over the international period, Watford are next in line to try and stop the in-form attacker.

The Arsenal man is 4/1 to score first on Saturday evening at Vicarage Road, and can be backed at 6/5 to net any time this weekend.

The Gunners are 4/7 to claim a third straight win, while Premier League returnees Watford are 9/2 to claim three points on home soil.

Meanwhile, Ladbrokes are again offering their Sharp Shooter promotion for this televised domestic league. If you back a player to score first in the game and that player nets the opening goal in the game, Ladbrokes will double that player’s odds!
