Alloa provide perfect chance for Morton to end tricky spell

Greenock Morton opened the season with a single loss from their first six games, but as they prepare to host Alloa this Saturday, Jim Duffy’s men are winless in six matches.
That statistic doesn’t paint the full picture however. Morton have played four of the top five sides from the Ladbrokes Championship in that spell, and only Rangers claimed victory by more than a one-goal margin.
Particular misfortunate was endured at both Falkirk and Raith, with injury-time goals in both games denying Morton what would now be a useful two points.
As such, the pride of the Clyde can feel hard done by to have lost their last four league games but as Halloween looms, things should start looking a lot less gloomy.
Jim Duffy has already led his side to victory over Alloa Athletic this season, with Thomas O’Ware’s goal enough to claim three points at the Recreation Ground at the end of August.
Athletic responded by winning their next game, but that’s proven to be their sole win this term and they enter this contest having lost seven times.
Alloa have also kept just one clean sheet on the road this season, while only Rangers have got the better of Morton at Cappielow Park, further supporting the hosts’ odds of 5/6 to win this weekend.
Following this weekend’s clash, Morton head to another side below them in the table in the shape of Dumbarton.
The Sons have been solid at home this year, and pushed Rangers hard last month, but losses to Queen of the South and Alloa will remind Duffy and his team that points will be their for the taking, as they did in the 0-0 first meeting six weeks ago.
Rounding off this little trio of games for the Ton is a home tie with bottom side Livingston.
The opening meeting of the campaign saw Morton run out 4-2 winners at Almondvale, and with Livi still struggling for results, this is another big chance for the Cappielow Park side to pick up points.
It’s been a difficult spell for Morton but the next few weeks are a big opportunity to reclaim some form and momentum.
