All hail Steve Prescott Man of Steel Zak Hardaker

Leeds Rhinos full-back Zak Hardaker has been named this year’s Steve Prescott Man of Steel following an outstanding season at Headingley.

In doing so Hardaker has become the first Leeds player in 17 years to claim the award after beating off competition from team-mate Adam Cuthbertson and St Helens’ Alex Walmsley.

The 23-year-old has been instrumental in his team’s march towards an historic treble, scoring 13 tries in 30 appearances as well as kicking nine goals.

And this latest accolade for the 2012 Young Player of the Year wasn’t the only success that Leeds enjoyed at the Man of Steel Awards ceremony.

Brian McDermott was also celebrated having reached a third Super League Grand Final in five years, a further boost for the newly-crowned Coach of the Year as his team prepare for the showpiece event.

Leeds are Evens to win the season finale at Old Trafford while opponents Wigan have been chalked up at the same price.

The Warriors are also toasting success ahead of this weekend’s clash with their half-back George Williams named Young Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, outgoing Rhinos stalwarts Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock and Kylie Leuluai were among 10 Super League players to receive awards in recognition of their outstanding contribution to rugby league.
