Where are they now? A dose of Reality TV for ex-Eagle Sasa Curcic

We’ve been doing somewhat of a service here at Ladbrokes News with our Where are they now? series in that of the six players featured, the sides they represented in the Premier League avoided defeat the following weekend.

Therefore step forward Crystal Palace fans, as we guarantee at least a point away at Watford on Sunday in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

It’s also a good omen for both Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa supporters as we focus in on the ‘Yugoslavian George Best’, Sasa Curcic.

Unlike many footballers of today, Curcic’s driving force to succeed in football didn’t appear to be money, instead he offered this analogy of how you would best go about trying to sign him.

“A chairman might offer £10m for me. I would not be interested. But if he offered me 15 women from around the world that would be different. I would tell the chairman; please let me make these women happy. I will satisfy them like they have never been satisfied before.”

Aside from that, the former Partizan Belgrade wizard was a key advocate of peace in his homeland, once parading around Selhurst Park holding a ‘Stop Nato Bombing’ placard.

After just three years in England he moved onto the USA before a short spell at Motherwell brought an end to his career.

He hung up his boots prematurely in 2000, but Curcic still had the legs in him to play 45 minutes for either side in his first of two testimonial matches between a Partizan 1994 team and FK Pionir, one of his former youth sides, in 2008.

However, he has not gone down the route of football pundit in his retirement, opting rather to spend his time flittering from reality show to reality show.

In 2007 he came through best of all to win the Serbia’s version of Celebrity Big Brother, excelling in tasks such as singing Serbia and Montenegro’s 2005 entry to the Eurovision Song Contest and returning ‘back to school’, undertaking a series of academic tests.

But that was where his success in the sphere ended. A short lived spell in his home country’s version of reality series The Farm lasted little more than a few days as he left by his own accord.

Worse was yet to come when he and his then-girlfriend signed up for the show ‘Couples’ – effectively Big Brother for partners.

And while his wild side may have been good for television, his drinking lead to his downfall in the show, after he had one (or four) too many and became aggressive to some of the ladies in the house and squared up to Serbian rapper ‘Gru’.

The show’s executive deemed this and some rather defamating claims regarding other Serbian celebs as enough to kick him out of the house.

Following that, Curcic appears to have done little back home of note; that is apart from riding around the streets of Belgrade on a tractor with a scantily clad lady perched on the side…

Since 2011 the former midfielder has returned to the beautiful game, first joining Tottenham in a youth coach capacity, before making the short hop to Arsenal.

Now though, it is more Acton Park than the Emirates as The Sasa Curcic Academy takes up his time.

For a very reasonable £100 for 20 sessions children from the capital can learn the basics from the man that once compared himself to Eric Cantona.

So from a partying ladies man who liked a bevvy or two, Curcic turned to helping the youth experience the thrill of football he enjoyed.

Who knows, maybe the former Eagle can find the next man to take Selhurst Park by storm on the football pitches of west London.
