Vettel’s shock pole makes him worthy Singapore GP favourite

Sebastian Vettel will start from pole position in Singapore, at a track where he dominated in his world championship-winning years with Red Bull, making him a worthy favourite for a third win of the season.
Remarkably, Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes team were nowhere to be seen on the front row for the first time this season.
The Silver Arrows struggled to find the right balance with their tires leaving Hamilton fifth on the grid alongside teammate Nico Rosberg.
Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kyvat split the Ferarri’s in second and fourth respectively to make it their best weekend for qualifying in a tumultuous season to date.
Ferrari did a phenomenal job during Saturday at Marina Bay, where Vettel didn’t even have to complete a recognised flying lap towards the end of Q3, having already laid down what turned out to be an unbeatable marker early in the session.
Considering Vettel holds the joint record for the most wins under the lights in Singapore, claiming victory consecutively in 2011, 2012 and 2013, while coming second to Hamilton a year ago, the German is hard to oppose at 8/15.
He simply loves the track and being the only driver to have clocked a time in the 1.43s in Q3, his Ferrari looks a formidable machine to beat in Sunday’s race.
Given what transpired in qualifying, the hunt for the podium spots therefore provided more spice and quite possibly value than it has done all season, especially where Hamilton is concerned.
Despite starting from the third row of the grid, the man who has set the championship pace yet again in 2015 looks a superb bet to make up two spots in running at 6/4.
Meanwhile, fellow Mercedes man Rosberg could be the pick of the podium bunch at odds of 10/3.
