Steven Fletcher to Celtic smacks of Deadline Day déjà vu

Published:

Celtic have been busy building for the future by wrapping up a number of deals ahead of Deadline Day. But there’s one story doing the rounds that has its roots firmly in the past.

‘Steven Fletcher to Celtic’ is a staple rumour that’s once again been resurrected with the former Hibernian striker allegedly on Ronny Deila’s radar and in talks about a move to Parkhead.

Back in November 2014, Fletcher himself spoke to the Daily Record about failed attempts to lure him to the east end of Glasgow.

He said: “There has been talk a fair few times but it’s never actually happened.

“It did get close. When I was frustrated with injuries and not playing, I sometimes thought this is home for me and I want to come back.

“Of course I do want to come home, it just depends when.”

Fast forward nearly a year and the same link is being made with various newspapers reporting on the possibility of Fletcher finally turning out in the green and white.

It’s believed that should Fletcher make the switch north of the border it would be on an initial loan deal.

Celtic have already tied up deals for defender Jozo Simunovic and Tyler Blackett on loan with Virgil van Dijk rumoured to be on the way to Southampton.
