Spurs frustrated on Deadline Day as numerous targets fall flat

Tottenham are usually good for a bit of action on transfer deadline days, but it seems the 2015 edition will need other clubs to provide the drama.
Judging by the links being made with the White Hart Lane club, Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for a striker and a defensive midfielder, but it is looking increasingly likely the former Southampton manager will be left frustrated in those pursuits.
A new anchorman is likely to leave Spurs the most aggravated, with a number of targets seemingly producing nothing but rebuttals from around the world.
Alex Song was a rumoured Tottenham target before Deadline Day, but is thought to have sealed another loan spell with West Ham, while the pursuit of the Hammers’ own Cheikou Kouyate has failed to get off the ground.
Axel Witsel and Victor Wanyama, from Zenit St Petersburg and Southampton, respectively are another two midfield men that seem to be slipping through the north Londoners’ clutches. The possibility of Eric Dier filling in as a screener for the whole season is becoming a real worry.
Up front, West Brom remain adamant that Saido Berahino will not be leaving the Hawthorns on Deadline Day, as the club are left little time to find a replacement of their own should Spurs even manage to match the Midlands club’s valuation of the striker.
That means that Erik Lamela will continue to deputise as Harry Kane’s striking understudy, with new man Heung-min Son likely to be used in the role too following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.
Spurs travel to Sunderland next in the Premier League, with Ladbrokes making them 19/20 for a first win of the season.
