SPFL: How Deadline Day has played out so far

While managers in the English top flight have been falling over themselves to sign players on deadline day – £36m for a teenager anyone? – it’s been a quieter day north of the border so far.
The biggest splash so far has been Virgil van Dijk’s move to Southampton for a reported £11.5m but that deal was seen as an inevitability as soon as the Bhoys failed to reach the Champions League group stages.
The Hoops have the rest of the day to use those funds to find a replacement, but with Manchester United’s Tyler Blackett arriving on loan and Jozo Simunovic expected to agree terms before midnight manager Ronny Delia may well feel he is already well covered.
Parkhead also said hello and goodbye to highly-rated midfielder Ryan Christie with the Inverness prospect signing a four-year deal before being instantly loaned back to Caley.
Christie’s return was not the only loan deal finalised by the Thistle on Deadline Day however, with Swindon’s Miles Storey and Charlton’s Tobi Sho-Silva also looking to test themselves north of the border.
Partick Thistle also moved to bolster their front line, with the loan signing of Dundee United teenager Robbie Muirhead.
The striker made 15 appearances for the Terrors last season and grabbed two goals and will look to improve at Firhill.
While Dundee United were letting one go, down the road at Dens Park Dundee agreed a loan move for Cardiff City forward Rhys Healey.
The Manchester-born attacker was among the goals on loan at Colchester last year and will look to continue his development and offer Paul Hartley competition for places in the Dees squad.
Meanwhile, in the Championship, Rangers sent Andy Murdoch and Robbie Crawford to Cowdenbeath and Alloa respectively to gain some first-team experience and Hibs were involved in a loan move of their own.
The Hibees, however, were bringing someone in the shape of Chelsea prospect Islam Feruz. The Scotland U21 international struggled for game time on previous loans at OFI Crete and Blackpool but will hope to be given more chances under Alan Stubbs.
