Rangers’ Warburton and Tavernier sweep up August awards

Published:

Rangers manager Mark Warburton and James Tavernier have been rewarded for their excellent starts at Ibrox by claiming the Ladbrokes Championship Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively.

Rangers claimed four wins from four during the opening month of the campaign, quickly asserting themselves at the sharp end of the table.

Since taking the helm at Rangers over the summer, former Brentford manager Warburton has led the side to a rampant start in the Championship.

The 53-year-old’s first league game in charge arguably set the tone for the weeks to come, as Rangers ran out 3-1 winners at St Mirren on the opening weekend of the season.

Gers followed that up with further victories over Alloa, Hibernian and Queen of the South in August, claiming a perfect 12 points from 12 with some irresistibly attacking football.

Rangers fired in five past both Alloa and Queen of the South, while keeping it tight to see off Hibs 1-0.

A strong offense can only be successful on the back off a strong defence however and James Tavernier has been an integral part of Gers’ back-line this season.

The right-back joined from Wigan along with Martyn Waghorn in July on a three-year deal, and has quickly settled in at Ibrox to claim August’s Player of the Month award.

The 23-year-old has started every league and cup game thus far, and has proven equally effective at the other end of the pitch too, netting the winner in the 1-0 win over Hibernian with a stunning free-kick.

The former Newcastle player has quickly become a fan favourite at Ibrox, with his marauding displays down the right flank already something of a signature trait.
