Why Rangers defeat isn’t all doom and gloom for Raith Rovers

While Rangers are expected to blitz most of their opponents in the Ladbrokes Championship this season there would still have been few positives for Raith Rovers fans to take away from the 5-0 demolition at Ibrox over the weekend.

The result means The Rovers have now conceded seven and scored none in their last two games and after an impressive start to the season, now sit sixth in the table.

However, before the Stark’s Park faithful get too downhearted, it is worth noting that in recent times defeat to Rangers has often been followed by a positive result.

In fact in games following the last four defeats to the Glasgow outfit, Rovers have lost just once – to last season’s champions Hearts.

The other three games brought two wins against Livingston and a draw with Alloa, showing that while a beating by the Gers is not exactly welcome, the manner of the losses seems to spur the Kirkcaldy side on to immediately bounce back.

Next up for Ray McKinnon’s men is the visit of Queen of the South and with Rovers winning four of the last five meetings with the Dumfries side when on hosting duty – including a comprehensive 3-0 win last time out – there will be plenty of confidence in the home team banishing the memories of last weekend’s rout to take all three points.

The Doonhammers may come into the tie on the back of two consecutive away wins, but with those victories making it just four from 15 on the road they remain far from convincing on their travels.

And with Rovers winning five of their last seven at home, including back-to-back 3-0 victories coming into this tie, there is plenty to suggest that the hosts can bounce back from defeat to Rangers at the first time of asking once again.
