Poll: Is Diego Costa’s three-match ban harsh on the Chelsea man?

Published:

Team-mate Kurt Zouma may have rescinded his statement on how Diego Costa “likes to cheat a lot”, but it appears the FA are not so forgiving.

The Chelsea striker has had his three-match ban for violent conduct against Arsenal on Saturday upheld meaning he will miss the champions’ game against Walsall this evening, as well as Premier League ties with Newcastle and Southampton.

His club have said that they are “disappointed” by the ruling, but what do you think?

The Brazilian-cum-Spaniard found himself facing a wrap from the men at Wembley after clashing with Laurent Koscielny during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Match referee Mike Dean claimed not to have seen the incident, so the powers that be were able to interject to cast their own ruling on the matter.

A further slap in the face for Mourinho and co will be the fact that Arsenal stopper Gabriel actually had his red card overturned on appeal following the hot-tempered affair at the weekend.

The Gunners centre-back saw red after repeatedly coming close to fisticuffs (or handbags) with Costa, before appearing to stand on the striker’s foot.

He was handed his marching orders after Costa’s protestations, leaving the visitors down to 10.

Now with the men at the top reversing their decision, and then some, it will undoubtedly make ‘The Special One’ turn into ‘the Angry One’.

Could it even see the return of the claims of the ‘campaign’ against his Chelsea team?

That decision will likely be made on the basis of the Blues’ next few results, but for now it is time for reflection on Costa’s ban.
