Paul Pogba’s Chelsea move looking all-but dead in the water

The collapse of David de Gea’s move from Manchester United to Real Madrid may not be the only major deal involving European football’s elite to fall through at the last minute.

Chelsea are reportedly lining up a last-gasp bid for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, but according to the betting any deal is looking less and less likely to go through.

The Premier League champions were 2/1 to sign the Frenchman on Monday evening, but with their odds drifting out to 8/1 to land their target, the chance of any major arrivals at Stamford Bridge are looking slim.

Manchester City were also rumoured to be in the running to prise the 22-year-old from the Old Lady, but their odds have taken a walk too, going from 4/1 on Monday out to 16/1 on Deadline Day.

While it looks likely Pogba will be staying on the continent, the bookmakers have seen some interest in the midfielder leaving Turin to head elsewhere.

Real Madrid are 16/1 (from 33/1) while Paris St Germain, who could yet lose star central midfielder Adrien Rabiot to Arsenal, are 20/1 shots (from 28/1).

Any suitors would have to be willing to splash the cash on the former Manchester United trainee with a fee upwards of £80m mooted, with his wages potentially surpassing £250k-a-week.

In modern day football that may not be quite as ludicrous as it once was, but according to the betting it seems they are fees that neither Chelsea or Manchester City will be paying for the player.
