US Open: Experience to tame youth as elder Williams progresses

Published:

The men’s and women’s draws couldn’t be more contrasting as the US Open progresses in New York, with the male seeds standing firm in their quest for the title while their female counterparts flock the scene like a kid caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

As the fifth day of competition gets underway, here are Ladbrokes News’ best bets for the scheduled action:

Agnieszka Radwanska to beat Madison Keys 2-0 @ 11/8

The pair have split four career meetings across hard-court and grass surfaces. Radwanksa has won all of them, but seems to have a far easier time of it against her American rival on the former ground.

Both of the matches on grass have seen Keys take a set off the Pole, while the two tussles on hard courts have resulted in straight-sets victories for Radwanska.

The world number 15 is yet to drop more than three games in a set so far at the US Open too.

David Ferrer to beat Jeremy Chardy @ 1/2

The Spanish world number seven has thoroughly enjoyed his meetings with Chardy, winning seven of the eight they’ve played in their careers, yet finds himself with a little better than evens chance to win.

Understandably for a clay-court specialist, four of those victories have come on the red stuff, but there is enough evidence in his two triumphs on hard courts to back him.

The latest, at last year’s Australian Open was a straight-sets walk in the park for Ferrer, who also has a 2009 win at Indian Wells under his belt.

Venus Williams to beat Belinda Bencic @ 6/5

Swiss 18-year-old Bencic is a rising star in the women’s game, having climbed to 12th in the world in 2015 thanks to winning two titles on the WTA Tour.

She is, however, yet to get the better of the elder Williams, who proves time and again in meetings with the youngster that her experience and power should not be underestimated.

Williams has won all three career meetings with Bencic and has never let the Swiss claim any more than five total games in those matches.
