US Open Day 4: Andy Murray cruise part of tasty treble

Published:

Finding value in the opening stages of a tennis major is notoriously difficult, especially if it’s a patriotic punt you’re looking for.

However, Ladbrokes News has had a scan through the second round US Open matches to bring you a treble that not only includes another win for Britain’s Andy Murray but also offers odds of almost 10/1.

Read on to see where the smart money will be going in Round 2.

Andy Murray to beat Adrian Mannarino 3-0 @ 2/7

Much was made of Murray’s first round draw against the controversial but clearly talented Nick Kyrgios but the Brit  showed his class with a comprehensive 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory over the Australian to prove his US Open credentials.

Murray has met left-handed Frenchman Adrian Mannarino once before, taking a straight sets victory 6-3, 6-3 at Indian Wells, so will expect to come through unscathed here.

Robin Haase to win at least one set v Richard Gasquet @ 11/10

World number 12 Richard Gasquet will be quietly confident of beating the Dutchman who has dropped from world number 33 in 2012 to number 74 this year, but having beaten the Frenchman 2-0 last year – albeit on grass – there will plenty of love for the 6/1 about a win for Robin Haase.

In their three meetings to date Gasquet has managed a straight sets victory just once, back in 2012, so to find Haase odds-against to win at least a set looks good value.

Mikhail Youzhny to beat John Isner @ 3/1

At 33-years old former world number eight Mikhail Youzhny is unlikely to reach such heights again, sitting as he does at 101st in the current standings.

However, the Russian has won both of his previous meetings with American world number 13 John Isner – at the Montreal Masters in 2009 and in this tournament a year later – and could use that psychological advantage to spring a surprise in New York.
