Ladbrokes League 2: Clyde finally clicking into gear

Published:

Before the campaign kicked off Clyde were 11/4 favourites to come out on top in Ladbrokes League 2, but after two defeats in their first three games, their title challenge looked dented.

But in securing their third straight victory in good style against an Annan outfit that were on the up themselves, The Bully Wee have resurrected their title bid.

Four different players got on the scoresheet as Barry Ferguson’s men followed up a narrow win over Arbroath with a comprehensive 4-2 triumph over Athletic.

They were shortened back in to 9/4 in Ladbrokes’ league winner market, but they will have to overhaul the free-scoring Elgin City.

Bouncing back from a defeat to Montrose last week, the Moray side put in an excellent second half performance to trounce Berwick Rangers 4-1.

That quartet of strikes now means that Rangers have conceded 13 goals this season, with only East Stirlingshire leaking more, something that will need to be improved.

Keeping it tight at the back is something that East Fife had prided themselves on so far this term, proving the joint-stingiest defence in the division.

But that wasn’t enough to stop Arbroath pouncing late to secure a 1-0 victory at Bayview. That win means The Fifers are now within two points of the team above them and their survival chances boosted, Ladbrokes lengthening their odds to finish bottom from 11/4 to 7/2.

The team that continue to fall towards the trap door is East Stirlingshire.

Conceding five goals to a Queen’s Park outfit that had scored just four all term prior to Saturday in a 5-1 defeat looks pretty bad.

And with Reece Donaldson’s late sending off giving them more headaches for the future, it could be a long season for The Shire.

Stirling Albion, like the aforementioned Clyde, were well fancied to do well this season, but it took them five matches to secure their first win.

They doubled up against Montrose in a 1-0 victory on Saturday, despite their visitors arguably shading the contest.

They remain 9/2 shots to be promoted, but things will need to improve if they climb the league ladder.
