Ladbrokes League 2: Annan to prevail in table-topping clash

Published:

With just one point separating the top six sides, life in Ladbrokes League 2 is proving to be ultra competitive this season. League leaders Annan try to stave off second placed Elgin, while East Fife head to Montrose where either side could be top of the pile come Saturday evening.

Here’s your weekly preview…

Annan v Elgin

Annan hold a one point lead at the top of the table, with five teams lurking behind on 12 points.  A 2-0 win at Berwick last time out puts the Galabankies in good stead for this home fixture.

Jim Chapman’s men are unbeaten at Galabank this term, and will be further buoyed upon noting that Elgin have lost their last three away games.

The hosts have failed to score just once in 17 league games in front of their home crowd, while Elgin have let in 12 in their last six on the road.

Best Bet: Annan to win at 11/8

Clyde v Berwick

Defeated by the top two in the table in their previous two matches, Berwick are keen to avoid a third-straight loss.

Clyde went down 1-0 to East Fife last time out, but after defeat in their first home game to Queen’s Park, have handsomely won their last two at Broadwood Stadium, claiming 3-1 and 4-2 victories over East Stirling and Annan respectively.

A 3-1 win at Stirling Albion has been the Borderers only joy on the road however, slumping to a 5-0 loss at East Fife and a 4-1 defeat at Elgin.

Best Bet: Clyde -1 at 9/4

East Stirling v Arbroath

This weekend also sees a battle at the bottom, but East Stirling and Arbroath are enjoying vastly differing fortunes.

Having won two of their opening three games, the Shire have lost their last four, conceding a worrying 13 goals.

Arbroath head to Ochilview Park however having won their last two games, and both to nil.

The last five games involving Craig Tully’s men have seen both teams to score, and despite those four losses, their home record reads two wins from three.

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 11/20

Montrose v East Fife

Both these sides will have designs on topping the table, but inconsistency is hindering both Montrose and East Fife with the pair claiming two wins from four games.

Gable Endies boss Paul Hegarty has made a rallying cry to his point to pick up points away from home, which they are yet to do this term.

At Links Park however they’ve been superb, picking up four wins from four.

They’ve won three of those homes games to nil, while East Fife have failed to score in two of their three away games.

Best Bet: Montrose to win to nil @ 9/2

Stirling Albion v Queen’s Park

After wins over East Stirling and Montrose, Stirling Albion slumped to a fourth defeat of the season against Arbroath last weekend.

They now host a Queen’s Park side seeking a third straight win, having netted eight goals en route to victories over East Stirling and Elgin.

The Spiders have claimed two away wins, while their hosts have lost two of their three home matches.

Best Bet: Queen’s Park/Queen’s Park @ 11/4
