Ladbrokes League 2: Annan go top after breezing past Berwick

Published:

Annan Athletic are the new leaders in Ladbrokes League 2 following a 2-0 success over Berwick Rangers with some familiar faces doing the damage for Jim Chapman’s side.

Rabin Omar put the Black and Golds on their way to all three points with the game’s opening goal on 13 minutes.

Even a 30-minute delay to kick-off because of a broken down bus couldn’t derail the visitors as Smart Osadolor netted his fifth league goal of the season to secure victory just before the hour mark.

Meanwhile, the chasing pack remain as tightly-congested as ever with the five teams below Annan in the table all sitting on 12 points from seven games played.

Queen’s Park recorded back-to-back wins with a 3-1 success over Elgin City. The Glasgow outfit led through David Galt’s first-half effort before Elgin had Mark Nicolson sent-off for a second bookable offence.

Jamie McKernon took full advantage and smashed the hosts into a 2-0 lead before Queen’s were themselves reduced to 10-men following Chris Duggan’s dismissal.

Connor McClaren pulled one back before City goalkeeper Mark Hurst scored a late own goal on an eventful afternoon  at Hampden.

Elsewhere, struggling Arbroath recorded a much-needed 2-0 win over Stirling Albion courtesy of strikes from Sergio Cecilla Alvarez and Bobby Linn.

East Fife saw off inconsistent Clyde 1-0 with Kevin Smith their matchwinner and Montrose continue to defy their pre-season doubters with their 2-1 win over rock-bottom East Stirlingshire making it four home wins from four attempts.

Incredibly, Graham Webster and Gary Fraser combined again to put the men from Links Park on their way to another victory.

The pair have now both scored in each of The Gable Endies’ last three games on home soil with Maxwell Wright’s reply scant consolation for the visitors.
