Ladbrokes League 1: Rampant Pars storm to the top

Published:

The Ladbrokes League 1 table has taken on a somewhat ominous feel, thanks to Dunfermline’s latest free-scoring rout.

Former league leaders Forfar had their unbeaten start to the season brought to a crushing end by Allan Johnstone’s men, as they were dispatched 4-0 in front of their own fans.

A Joe Cardle hat-trick put the Pars out of sight at Station Park, before Andy Geggan’s fourth in stoppage time took Dunfermline’s total for the campaign to 21 goals.

But for a fine performance from Forfar’s Robert Douglas – including a penalty save from Cardle – the scoreline could have been much worse for the Loons, who slip to second.

Dunfermline are currently averaging over four goals a game this season, and have netted ten times more than any other side.

Late double secures Diamonds win

With 15 minutes to go at the Excelsior Stadium, Cowdenbeath were heading for just a second league win of the season.

Two goals in four minutes however from George Hunter and Liam Watt saw Airdreionians claim a third straight win and rise to fourth in the table.

Elsewhere Stranraer fans breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday evening, as they claimed their first points since the opening day.

Their 1-0 win consigned Brechin to a fifth straight loss however, and they’re the only team in the Ladbrokes SPFL without a point.

The final match of the weekend saw Peterhead and Albion maintain their mid-table status as Rovers picked up their first points away from home.

Jordon Brown put the Blue Toon ahead midway through the opening period, but Ally Love’s leveller on the stroke of half-time was enough to secure a share of the points for Darren Young’s visitors.
